What Are Stem Cells?
History
Regenerative therapy relies on stem cells. Stem cells are the building blocks of every organ and tissue in the human body. The specialized cells that make up the different parts of the human body originated from a group of stem cells formed shortly after fertilization.
Throughout life, humans need stem cells to repair or replace injured tissue. Cells are lost or destroyed every day. These include skin cells, blood cells, hair cells, and the cells that line the human gut.

Cells used in regenerative cell therapy have two unique properties. The first is their ability to self-renew. They divide to make copies of themselves. The second is their ability to differentiate.
Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent. They can generate all the different types of cells found in the human body.
